ELIZA - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children

The ELIZA Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, a highly specialized charitable organization, was established in Greece in 2008 with the purpose of protecting children who have suffered or are in danger of suffering abuse and neglect, with emphasis on preschool age children.

As of October 2018, ELIZA became the Country Partner for Greece of the International Society for Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN).

The main principle of ELIZA is “TODAY NOT TOMORROW” and its mission is to promote the rights and change the life of children through innovative programs, based on international standards and evidence – based practice.

With your support today, we can change the lives of children for the better.

The mission of ELIZA is primarily to prevent the phenomenon of child abuse or neglect before it occurs, to protect children at risk and to provide personalized therapy to children who have experienced abuse or neglect.

Our objectives

For children:

  • To prevent all forms of child neglect or abuse through specialized programs and awareness campaigns.
  • To raise awareness among public opinion and encourage every adult to report cases of children at risk.

For parents:

  • To offer support and substantial guidance to parents, who often become violent without wanting to and are seeking help.
  • To offer consulting, legal and training services to those in search of help for the protection of a child.

For professionals:

  • To apply the “Convention on the Rights of the Child” on the planning and implementation of every program addressed to children, who have experienced violence or who run a high risk of violation of their rights.
  • To inform health and education professionals about the phenomenon of child abuse and neglect in Greece and provide training programs regarding the current scientific data concerning child abuse, as well as the international and European conventions binding every country to the application of their dictates.

For the State:

  • Respect of children’s rights as citizens of the world regardless of culture, nationality or religion.
  • Interaction & teamwork: we believe in the collaboration of professionals and volunteers and in the development of synergies between organizations with similar aims.
  • Initiative& innovation: we identify the major problems associated with the phenomenon of child abuse and we try to find solutions.
  • Transparency& integrity: ELIZA does not receive any state funding and we are fully dependent on private funding from Greece and abroad for the continuation and development of our work. We operate under complete transparency in the handling of every single euro that we receive from the foundations, companies and individuals who support our life-saving work.
