Training Program for Prosecutors
The aim of the Program is to strengthen and optimize the process of handling cases where there is suspicion of abuse and/or neglect of infants and young children, through the provision of knowledge, practical guidance, and presentation of best practices adopted globally, tailored to the Greek reality and legislation.
In 2018, under the auspices of the Prosecutor’s Office of Thessaloniki and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court, ELIZA implemented the first two seminars in Thessaloniki and Athens, on December 10th and 11th respectively, through which 73 judges and prosecutors of different ranks were trained.
Additionally, police officers, forensic physicians, psychologists from the Hellenic Police, as well as social workers attended the seminars, thus strengthening the goal of promoting interdisciplinary approaches in handling each case with suspicion of child abuse.
The educational material was created and presented by a diverse team of experienced presenters-professionals with international experience and training in the field of child protection from abuse. The main speaker at both seminars was Dr. Resmiye Oral – Professor of Pediatrics/Expert, University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, Director of the Child Protection Program, and Fulbright Scholar for 2015-16 and 2018-19 (Fulbright Specialist Program).
ELIZA warmly thanks the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court, especially Mrs. Xenia Dimitriou-Vasilopoulou.
Thanks are also expressed to Aegean Airlines, Sponsor of Air Transport, and to the Electra Hotels & Resorts Group, Hospitality Sponsor, for their support in organizing the seminar in Thessaloniki.
